北大历史上的校长甚多,这里提出最具代表性的五位校长,着重揭示他们共同的长处和品格,即担任大学校长的优质条件,同时也扼要论述他们的个性和特点。以史为镜,以此供现任大学校长们、有关部门和广大师生选择校长时学习、参考。

Among the numerous presidents of Beijing University in history, the most representative five presi- dents were discussed. Their common merits and characters were showed, that is, the high quality of president of u- niversity. Meanwhile, their personal characteristics were briefly introduced. Just as history as the mirror, the au- thor tried to provide references for the presidents, related departments, and the teachers and students to learn.
