Fang Guoyu，the Great Master of Local Records

方国瑜教授不仅被誉为"南中泰斗,滇史巨擘",而且也被誉为"史家之典范,方志之楷模"。他从事地方志工作近8年,收集整理大量地方史料,主编和编纂多部地方志。地方志成果是他学术成果的重要组成部分,对地方志的研究以及从事地方志工作,极大地推动其学术成果,而其他学术成果又成为对地方志的补充和延伸。他的一生对地方志作出重大贡献。他编纂地方志的经验和成果成为宝贵的精神财富。

Professor Fang Guoyu is not only acknowledged as the 'leading scholar of Yunnan history',but also praised as the 'classic example of historians with fine models of local records'. In nearly eight years of work on local records,he collected and sorted an enormous amount of local historical records,compiled and served as chief editor of many local records. Achievements in local records are important parts of his academic achievements. His research on local records greatly boosted his academic achievements,whereas the rest of his academic achievements served as helpful supplement and extension of his local records work. His experiences and achievements of local records compilation have become valuable spiritual fortune worthy of careful study by later generations. His motto 'Do not underestimate our predecessors ,but strive to be better than our predecessors' is important revelation for the local records work.
