Life of PL written by Yann Martel, won the Award of Man Brook in 2002. It is an adventure novel, which is about the story of a young boy and a tiger on the South Pacific. This paper discusses the significant metaphors in this novel as well as its philosophical and ethical issues. The paper holds that the two main metaphors in this book echo with the main ethical line. The character of Pi reflects the two sides of Sphinx factor, i.e. rational factor and animal factor, the conflict between which is a long-term process, but final rationality will be obtained through ethical choice.
