摘要
Touch of the Light is a low-budget Taiwan Residents film adapted from the personal experiences of Huang Yu-hsiang, the province's renowned blind pianist. Huang, 26, was born blind. Undaunted, he became a well-known and highly respected musician. Director Chang Jung-chi once made a short film based on Huang's story, and that vignette attracted the attention of renowned Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai. Wong decided to provide Chang with the financing so he could develop the vignette into a full-length feature. Chang spent three years writing the script, and he asked Huang to play himself. Set in present-day Taiwan, Huang is blind, but has superb hearing. He moves from the village (where he was born) to the province's capital, Taipei, to study piano in college. It's the first time that he lives away from his family, and he must overcome many difficulties -- without his family's assistance. Even walking from the dormitory to the classroom is a hardship for Huang.
