Combination and Separation of Peking University in the Period of Beiping University District

北平大学区时期,国民政府试图合并平、津、保三地的大学组成北平大学,遭到北京大学学生的激烈反对。其反对的原因不仅因为大学区制本身存在的理论困境与合并的现实困难,还夹杂着复校希望落空、经费不能解决、学阀控制的恐惧与北大精神的殒落等。尽管北京大学学生誓死反对合并,但最终却不得不妥协。其妥协原因,既有外部环境的政治高压,也有学生内部意见的分歧甚至严重对立,还有吴稚晖等人的斡旋调停。尽管北京大学风潮最终和平解决,但北平大学区制依然给北京大学乃至北方教育界带来极大的伤害。

In the Period of Beiping University District, National Government tried to combine colleges and universities of Baoding, Tianjin and Beiping to form Beiping Universi- ty. This proposal was strongly opposed by the students of Peking University, whose reasons were the theoretical predicament and actual difficulties of Beiping University District. And the ruined hope of recovering Peking University, shortage of funds, fear of scholar-tyrant were also its failure causes. Finally, Peking University compromised because of the political pressure, internal division and the mediation of Wu Zhi-hui. Although the upheaval of Pe- king University was settled peacefully, Beiping University District still hurt Peking Univer- sity and even the north education deeply.
