Intentional Mistranslation from the Perspective of Intercultural Understanding

跨文化交际领域的翻译,不可避免地渗透着各个民族文化的特征。翻译作为一种创作性文化活动,植根于两种不同的异质文化,成为误译的发生场所。文化间性强调文化间性特质,关注意义变异现象的研究。文化间性作为透视文化的新视角,使误译具有一定的合法性和不可避免性。文化间性实际对自我和他者进行辨证思维,误译作为文化现象得到辨证的解读,对于翻译理论和实践研究具有积极意义。

Translation involved in cross--cultural communication is inevitably embedded with distinct characteristics of different cultures. As a culturally creative performance rooted in two distinct cultures, translation practice appears to be a site of intentional mistranslation. Intercultural understanding studies the distortion of meaning in translation by highlighting the idiosyncracy of different cultures. It provides us a new perspective of examining both the legitimacy and inevitability of the intentional mistranslation during cross--cultural communication. By investigating the dialectical relationship between ＂self＂ and ＂other＂, intercultural understanding enables intentional mistranslation to be interpreted dialectically as a cultural phenomenon, which is of significance in the study of translation theory and practice.
