The volume of spot LNG traded was 62 million metric tons in 2011. Spot LNG trading has grown rapidly because of nuclear energy policy changes, seasonal natural gas demand and rapid growth in LNG supply in recent years. Continued growth in spot LNG trading isn't likely in the next few years because few liquefaction projects will be commissioned before 2016. Spot trading will likely decline over the next decade in share of LNG, and perhaps even in absolute volume. Some LNG importing countries will meet their natural gas needs in other ways.
