Ying Xiuren, together with other three young poets, renowned as Lake Poets, made great contributions in terms of conforming to the times, promoting production of romantic poets, transforming artistic style, supporting the criticism of the dark age, conveying sympathy for the hardship of life and showing deep emotion in writing scenery in particular as well as homesickness for family members. As a result, Lake Poets played a significant role in the new era of poetry during May Fourth Movement for their unique command of artistic quality and great thought.
