The Review of the Debate Between C. T. Hsia and Jaroslav Prusek and the Discipline Reflection of the Modern Chinese Literature

普实克与夏志清之间有关《中国现代小说史》的论争固然有政治立场上的分歧,也包含相当浓郁的意识形态色彩,但放在中国现当代文学研究学科的反思中我们更应该看到,这场论争实质上包含着有关中国现代文学研究的深刻的学术观念和方法上的分歧与差异。论争中所涉及的学术观念和方法体现在多个方面,有些具有整体性质,有些只具有细节的意义,其中有关中国现代文学史的史学性质,也就是其研究中所谓"科学性"的落脚点的理解,以及研究中应该采用何种具体方法等是他们论争的焦点所在。重温这场论争对于深化现代文学史学性质和研究方法的理解,对于我们今天的现代文学学科的反思与重建来说也许是不无裨益的。

The debate between C. T. Xia and Jaroslav Prusek on A History of Modern Chinese Fiction certainly not only has its disputes in political stands, but also is involved in strong ideological coloring, however, we should see the nature of the debate is dispute and difference between the deep ac- ademic concept in the study of modern Chinese literature and the study methods, when placed it in the discipline reflection. The debate relates to various academic concepts and methods, some of which have the identity nature while some only have detailed significance, among which some relates to the historical nature of the history of modern Chinese literature, some about the understanding of the foothold of so- called science as well as the specific methods adopted in the study. Reviewing the debate in deepening the understanding the nature of modern literature and the method for study can offer great help in the re- flection of the modern literature discipline and its reconstruction.
