On the Cognitive Structuring of Conceptual Metaphors——A Challenge to the Myth of Western Objectivism and Subjectivism

In 1980, the American cognitive linguists George Lakoff and Mark Johnson initiated the Conceptual Metaphor Theory and the philosophical basis of cognitive linguistics, which has had a pro- found effect on the field of philosophy and linguistics. This paper, based on the cognitive system of con- ceptual metaphor and the challenges to such western leading philosophical ideas as objectivism and sub- jectivism, conducts an insightful research on the mainstreams and limitations of the theory, discusses a- bout its improvements and the latest development, and makes a systematic analysis of metaphors from the perspective of cognition.
