A new generation main blower developed by Siemens for responding to industry trends and challenging specification limits of single train equipment is described. The launch of the blowers made possible single blower arrangements for large sulphuric acid plants in the range of 4 000 up to 6 000 t/d. The pros and cons of single and dual blower arrangements are summarized. A case study is made indicating the potential energy savings for replacing the existing blower with new high-efficiency blower.
