Golden-star anchorage(or Camsingmoon), lying to the west of Pearl River estuary, was developed into a center for importing opium before and after the opium war. In the 1820s, a few foreign opium vessels an-chored at Golden-star anchorage by chance; however, numbers of vessels came here frequently in the 1830s. In the 1840s and 1850s, the anchorage became the center of opium trade in the delta of Pearl River. It has some academic value to analyze the opium trade at Golden-star anchorage for discussing the development of the Sino-Western rela- tions before and after the opium war.
