“Soul Alteration”and“Body Alteration”——on the Process of Body Modernity Based on The Song of Youth

知识分子走上革命道路,要经历一个"灵魂的改造"过程,可是从《青春之歌》这部地道的革命小说看来,灵魂的改造更深刻地表现为"身体的改造"。《青春之歌》恰好展现了从"五四"资产阶级人道主义革命到阶级革命的身体改造和实践过程,是身体现代性进程的完整镜像,使人们看到了现代历史对于人的塑造的重要侧面。文章的论述是对红色经典小说《青春之歌》的另一种解读。

This article provides a new interpretation of the classic novel The Song of Youth. As we all know, intellectuals should experience a process of alteration of souls when they took part in the revolution. According to The Song of Youth, however, the soul transformation was more deeply shown as body alteration. This novel just showed a practical process of body alteration which transformed from the bourgeois humanism revolution to the prole- tarian revolution in the ＂May Fourth Movement＂. It＇s a complete mirror image of body modernity, which shows us an important perspective of the remolding of human beings by the modern history.
