《他们眼望上苍》是美国黑人女作家佐拉·尼尔·赫斯顿1937年完成的一部小说。在小说中作者成功塑造了一个反抗传统习俗,大胆追求平等幸福婚姻的新女性——珍妮。珍妮共经历了三段婚姻。在第一段婚姻中珍妮体验到的是对爱情的憧憬与幻灭;在第二段婚姻中她总是处于被支配的地位,生活在丈夫的光环之下,虽然有自己的思想,但是没有言说的权力和自由;在第三段婚姻中珍妮终于能够自由平等地表达自己的思想。通过对言说权的追求与实现,珍妮终于获得了独立的自我意识,成为一个反叛传统的独立的黑人新女性。
Their Eyes Were Watching God was written by an American black woman writer, Zora Neale Hurston in 1937. In the novel Hurston creates a new female character： Janie who rebels against conventions and pursued freedom and equality in marriage. Janie experiences three marriages. In the first marriage Janie goes through longing for love and disillusionment. In the second marriage, she lives under her husband＇ s big voice. Though she has her own thought, she has no say. Only in the third marriage can Janie find her own voice to express her own mind. Through the pursuit and expression of voice, Janie becomes a rebellious woman with independent self-consciousness.
