The Linguistic Approach and the Cultural Approach as Viewed from the Purpose and Function of Translation Criticism

对翻译研究的两大流派——语言学派和文化学派,目前在译界存在着褒贬不一的评价。翻译活动涉及到语言和文化两大方面,因此翻译批评要做到全面、客观、公正,需要不同流派的共同参与,需要把微观和宏观、信度和效度结合起来,这样才能保证翻译批评目的和功能的成功实现。

In the present translation circles, there has been much appraisal, both commendatory and derogatory, concern- ing the linguistic approach and the cultural approach in translation studies. As translation involves both language and cul- ture, for a successful fulfillment of the purpose and function of translation criticism, the joint effort of various approaches, the consideration for both the micro and macro aspects, and the combination of both faithfulness and effectiveness, etc. are thought necessary.
