从现代文明研究的角度出发,否定了西方历史学界长期流传着的一种观点:世界文明起源的标志是城邦(Polis)。通过分析介绍仰韶文化群和景阳岗古城,认为从世界文明史的意义上来理解《苏州城墙》一书,发现中国古代江南城邦的历史功不可没。再更进一步而言,点明《苏州城墙》对于世界文明中的国家起源的重要意义。

Beginning with modem civilization study, the paper defies the long-held view by the Western historians, that Polis is the sign of the origin of world civilization. Through analysis and introduction of Yangshao culture group and Jingyang Gang ancient city, the paper considers that from the sense of the history of world civilization to comprehend The City Walls of Suzhou, the discovery of Jiangnan Polis in ancient China cannot be ignored. Furthermore, the paper highlights the significance of The City Walls of Suzhou, to national origin in world civilization.
