New watermelon cv. 8424 is a small-size watermelon variety which could be harvested for several times after one- time field planting in year around ; it showed the advantages of high yield, high quality, and good economic benefit. This pa- per summarized the key techniques for high-yielding cultivation of new watermelon cv. 8424, including the cultivation of seedlings in nutritional pots, extension of growing season by mulching greenhouse and ground with plastic film, quantitative drop irrigation, and balanced fertilization and control of diseases and pests, etc.
