唐代应试诗除表达歌功颂德的主要思想之外,还抒发了得遇擢拔的愿望、求取功名之艰难和对历史人物的感慨。在符合正统思想的前提之下,应试者在试诗中也力图表达与众不同的情感、思想和见解,表现不同凡俗的情志,以期得到考官的关注和青睐。
