近现代苏州城市空间研究的回顾与展望

Retrospect and Prospects of the Study of Urban Space in Modern Suzhou

城市空间是城市史研究的重要组成部分。近现代苏州城市空间研究可以追溯到民国时期,近年来的研究主要聚焦于城市功能的演变、商业中心的转移、租界、建筑与住宅、城市规划与建设和公共空间等问题。这些研究使我们对近现代苏州城市空间的物质改造过程有较清晰的认识,但城市物质空间变迁与城市居民生活之间的互动关系仍有待继续阐明。聚焦城市公共空间,开展近现代苏州城市社会生活史和大众文化史研究,是深化近现代苏州城市空间研究的一个可能途径。

The study of urban space is an important part of the study of urban history. The study of urban space in modern Suzhou dates back to the period of the Republic of China （1912-1949） on the mainland. The attention of the study is focused on such issues as the evolution of urban functions, transfer of business centers, leased territories, buildings and housings, urban planning and construction and public space in recent years. These studies provide us a clear understand- ing of the process of material transformation in modern Suzhou urban space; however, the interactive relationship between the transition of urban material space and the life of urban residents still calls for further studies. Probably, it is a feasible way to deepen the study of urban space in modern Suzhou by focusing on urban public space and carrying out re search of urban social life history and popular cultural history in modern Suzhou.
