The formation of the US dollar hegemony has experienced a transition of the dollar from being a key currency in the international monetary system of western countries to being the dominant currency in global monetary and financial field. The Cold War period played a critical role in this transition. Gold, Dollars, and Power： The Politics of Interna- tional Monetary Relations, 1958-1971 by Francis J. Gavin has taken the lead in exploration of the issue of the political cost of dollar hegemony during the Cold War, poniting out that as the hard currency to back dollar hegemony, gold is also the political cost.
