Scandia and ceria co-doped zirconia (10Sc1CeSZ) powders were prepared via a gelation-solid state reaction using scandia, cerium nitrate hexahydrate and zirconyl nitrate as starting materials. The results show that the 10Sc1CeSZ powder calcined at 800℃is a pure cubic fluorite structure with the specific surface area of 9.18 m2/g and the average particle size of 100 nm, which is suitable as a starting material for the preparation of electrolyte film in tape casting process. The 10Sc1CeSZ powder showed a superior sin-terability. The green thin film prepared by tape casting which could be densified in the temperature range from 1 400 to 1 450℃ can remain the pure cubic structure. It is convenience and effective to use the gelation-solid state reaction method for the preparation of 10Sc1CeSZ powder with the preferably sintering activity and uniform particle size distribution. This method can be promising for the large-scale production.
