《奇异的插曲》是美国现代戏剧之父尤金·奥尼尔最著名的心理探索剧。剧中的主人公尼娜疯狂地控制了她周围的多位男性,但他们最终纷纷离她而去。尼娜的疯狂行为是其女性内在价值的张扬、精神生态失衡的创伤记忆和对男性神话的疯狂解构。但剧本的悲剧性结尾表明:女性要走出精神困境,就要在坚持女性内在价值的基础上,与男性建立一种相互依存、相互理解和相互关爱的关系。
Strange Interlude is the most famous psychoanalytic play by Eugene O＇ Neill, the ＂Father of Modern American Drama＂. The heroine Nina＇ s insane manipulation of many men in her life eventually ends in their incessant desertion of her. Nina＇ s insanity in nature is first of all her claim of women＇ s innate values. Only by controlling men, she thinks she is of value as a woman. Second, her insanity is her means to recover from traumatic recollections arising from spiritual imbalance. Third, her insanity is the way to deconstruct the patriarchal myth. The tragic ending of the play shows that women, while maintaining their innate value, should build a harmonious relationship of mutual dependence, understanding and care with men to get rid of their spiritual dilemma.
