Domestic telecommunications operators are now in a head on competition with internet companies such as Tencent and Alibaba. WeChat, a popular mobile com- munication tool developed by Tencent, has over 300 million registered users; and Alipay, a leading third-party online payment solu- tion offered by Alibaba, boasts 800 million registered users. The appeal of Tencent and Alibaba is based on the better telecom and value-added services they offer.
