Confucianism Is Not a Religion

近年来,宗教学界多有人将儒家认定为宗教;儒学圈内,也有人以儒教方式复兴儒家。本文简略分析孔子以来儒家存在之社会形态后指出,儒家从来不是宗教,而是文教。中国人的精神生活形态是"一个文教,多种宗教"。基于这一事实,本文认为,儒家之宗教化是不可能的,也是不恰当的。

In recent years, some scholars in religious studies tend to assert Confucianism is a religion; on the other side, some Confucians propose to revive Confucianism in a form of Confucius-religion. After analyzing Confucian social forms since Confucius, this paper concludes that Confucianism has ever been a cultivative system, but not religion. ＂One Confucius-cultivation, one more religions＂ has been the spiritual structure of the Confucians and common people in China. Based on this truth, the point of this paper is that religionalization of Confucianism is impossible and inappropriate.
