The late 1950' s saw the prime of Hongkong Cantonese Opera and that is not simply due to the more tolerant political policy or more artistic freedom in HK. Careful studies of the historical materials lead to the discovery—— the 1950' s witness a number of similarities between Hongkong Cantonese Opera and Guangdong Cantonese Opera, in repertoire development, troupe reorganization, the ideal of artistic style and so on. Moreover, the reform of Hongkong Cantonese Opera happened slightly later than that in the mainland of China. Therefore, the reform of Guangdong Cantonese Opera guided by "the Reform of Traditional Chinese Opera" in the mainland of China produced an effect on the Hongkong Cantonese Opera directly and indirectly, and has thus promoted the development of Hongkong Cantonese Opera.
