Dialogic reading program was first described in 1988 by Dr. Whitehurst of New York State University. This program regards reading as an opportunity to develop children＇s language and cognition. Dr. Whitehurst believes that appropriately scaffolding adult-child interaction in picture reading facilitate young children＇s pre-hteracy. Dialogic reading, as a sharing reading, has a most important feature, which is role change. R.ole change means children play leading roles as the teller while adults are effective listener, partners and supporters. This paper reviews systematically the Dialogic reading program from the perspectives of basic theories, specific content, contribution and evaluation.
