A Brief Review on Chao Gongsu’s Poetry

南宋文学家晁公遡的不少诗作表现了抗金复国的时代主题,反映了金人的侵略战争和南宋朝廷的妥协投降政策给人民带来的苦难。同时他有更多的作品反映民生疾苦,揭露封建官府的横征暴敛,披露官场内幕和各种社会矛盾,将封建官吏的日常政务引入诗中,对宋诗题材具有明显的开拓。其数量较多的日常题材诗作,富有生活气息,以俗为雅,意趣不凡。在艺术上,晁公遡的诗歌避免了北宋后期诗歌的典奥,风格平易,反映了南宋前期诗歌逐渐走出了江西诗派的樊篱。

In quite a few poems, Chao Gongsu （1116-？）, writer of the Southern Song Dynasty, appealed to his nation to resist Jin invaders for recovering the lost territories, and described people＇s sufferings caused by Jin＇s aggressive war and the surrender strategy of the Southern Song government to Jin. These subjects actively responded the main themes of his times. Moreover, he put more emphasis on reflecting miserable life of the common people, exposing the excessive taxes and levies imposed by government officials to peasants, and disclosing the inside stories of the officialdom and all sorts of social contradictions. Thus he obviously contributed to the theme development of Song dynasty＇s poetry in part by distinctly treated daily government affairs in his poetry. In most of his poems, he fully displayed his everyday life with elegant taste. In all his poetry showed a simple and accessible style by dramatically decreasing excessive allusions and esoteric words which prevailing in these poems of the later period of the North Song Dynasty, and implied the transitional trend for the early Southern Song dynasty＇s poetry to slip the leash of Jiangxi Poetry School.
