刍议霍译版《红楼梦》人名中隐含意义的处理——从归化、异化的角度进行探讨

Translation of Names in Hawkes' the Story of the Stone——From the Angle of Domestication and Foreignation

文学作品中人名通常具有一定的隐含意义。《红楼梦》中的人名同样具有这样的特征,或暗示人物个性特征,或预示人物未来的结局命运,或本身具有一定的寓意。所以在《红楼梦》英译中,人名翻译的策略选择十分重要。霍克斯作为为林黛玉"正名"的第一人,对于人名的翻译,具有自己的特色,很好地向目标语读者传递了文化信息及其中的隐含意义,进而让目标语读者更好地理解其原著的特色。

There often exist some indications in the characters＂ names in literary works, which are the same to the names in the Story of the Stone. The names either indicate the personality characteristics or the ending fate of the character or some implied meanings. Therefore, the strategies used in translating the names in the Story of the Stone are very important. David Hawkes, the first person to rectify the name for Lin Daiyu, has his own feature in the translation of names. He conveyed the cultural informa- tion and the indications to target language readers smoothly and made the readers better understand the unique features of the orig- inal work.
