A Brief Talk on the Humanistic Factors in the Evolution of City Square in the West

城市广场在历史上一直是西方城市政治、经济、文化活动的中心,也是城市重要的象征。而西方城市广场经历了从有机开敞到规整严谨,再到自由多元的辗转变化。本文以西方城市广场的演变为线索,探讨其与当时的社会背景之间的关系,重点关注广场的社会价值和人文价值。

Urban square is not only a center of political, economic as well as cultural activities, but also an important symbol of different cities. Western city square has experienced acourse of evolution from being shaped freely, organically to strictly, symmetrically, then returning to be free and organic again. This article focuses on social and cultural interpretation of urban squares, based on the historical evolvement, to explore the relationship between urban square and social background.
