Analysis on the Features of Characters in "The Age of Innocence" from the Perspective of C. G. Jung's Archetypes Theory

In her novel, ＂The Age of Innocence＂, Edith Wharton presents the readers, through the dilemmas of love and marriage faced by the protagonist Newland Archer, a vision of the confrontation between conventions and personal fulfillment and a losing battle between individual aspirations and the forbidding authority of New York＇s social tribe in the 1870s. This paper at- tempts to analyze the character of the protagonist and its impact on his fate from the perspective of C. G. Jung＇s archetypes theory.
