T＇oegye＇s literary aesthetic ideas can be summed up in one sentence, that is, ＂The importance of literature cannot be overstressed; it serves to rectify the heart. ＂ That literature serves to rectify the heart is the cornerstone of T＇oegye＇s literary aesthetic ideas. He thinks that this conviction extends uninterrupted from Confucius to Zhuxi. To him literature is of great value as long as it rectifies the heart and embodies, illustrates and conforms with the Way.
