The narrotological-stylistic approach to translation reading, which deploys the theoretical frameworks of stylistics, narratology and translation studies assisted by using corpuses as a tool, offers a new direction for translation studies. Through a contrastive study of Mo Yan's novel Life and Death Are Wearing Me Out (English translation by Howard Goldblatt), which is well-received by Anglophonic readers, it was found that two levels of explication were made use of, i.e. the linguistic and the cultural levels, when exploring the nature of translation fiction from a narrative-stylistic perspective. For translators as special readers of the ST, two models of translation reading were distinguished: (1) a source-based critique of translated fiction, which incorporates the narratological approach and the traditional to post-Babelian approaches; and (2) the historian-describer and comparative reading approaches. The focus of the narratological-stylistic approach to translation studies is on the style of the individual translator.
