摘要
尤金·奥尼尔在其戏剧创作中勇于探索,大胆实践,他不仅将传统的戏剧创作手法和现代主义创作手法相结合,而且还将小说创作技巧用于其戏剧创作之中。1920~1932年是奥尼尔创作的独特阶段,他将面具等现代主义表现手法融入其戏剧创作,因此,面具在其剧作中以不同的形式出现,如同镜子般反映和揭示了剧中人扭曲、变态而复杂的心路历程。
Eugene O'Neill not only combines the techniques of traditional playwriting with those of modernism, but applies the techniques of novel-writing to his playwriting. 1920-1932 is a unique phase, for he employs the techniques of modernism such as masks in his playwriting. So masks come out in different forms in his plays, like a mirror, reflecting and revealing the characters' twisted, abnormal and complex psychology.
