The title of Mo Yan's speech for the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2012 coincidentally is the same as Walter Benjamin's essay on artistic modernity "Story-teller-thinking on Nicolai Leskov's works". Besides, their views on literary creation as revealed in the two texts are quite similar. By close-reading the two texts and comparing their creation process, the paper argues that Mo Yah might be deeply influenced by Benjamin in his understanding about "story telling" and, of course used this concept creatively. By doing this we could have a better understanding of the relationship between fiction writer and social history. What is more, we might be able to reach some common understanding about "story-telling" in world literature.
