According to the requirements of 3D planning approval for construction engineering projects in Shanghai and the use of standard practice in 3D modeling projects for planning schemes, this article discusses the main technological methods and 3D modeling used in such planning schemes. These include the key technologies of model building, texture editing, shadow baking, model transformation, and exhibition. The paper also presents suggestions for approaches used in implementing 3D planning approval and for surveying and mapping by the geographic information industry.
