中国作为一个多民族大国,民族区域自治制度是我国一项基本政治制度和基本国策,其基本特性在于它的人民性、民主性、整体性、科学性、合理性及实践性,是中国共产党创造性的运用马克思主义民族理论与中国的具体实际相结合解决我国民族问题的典范,是中国现代民族国家建设和国家认同的构建基础,也是凝聚中华民族精神的重要制度基础和保障。重申和研究民族区域自治在中国构建现代民族国家过程中的地位和作用具有重要意义。

China is a nation with multiple nationalities. Autonomy of ethnical regions is one of basic political system and a fundamental state policy. Its fundamental features lie in people-orientation, democracy, integration,scientificity, reasonability and practicality. This is a model for the solution of ethic issues by creatively combining ethnic theories of Marxism and Chinese reality. This is the foundation for construction of modern China and national identity. It is also the important systematical foundation and guarantee to unite Chinese national spirit. It is of great significance to restate and study the position and role of autonomy of ethnical regions in the construction of modern ethnical nation for China.
