The most important theme in American Indian author Leslie Silko＇ s work is the losing and in- ternal and external balancing of American Indians in the cultural colonizing. This paper analyzes the narrative strategy combining Indian oral tradition and English writing language which Silko has used in her short stories such as Yellow Woman, etc. , to explain Silko＇s cultural stance. In the conflicts between tradition and exter- nal culture, the Indians must keep their own traditional ideas of outlook and cosmology, identify with their own tradition and nature, in order to re - establish their self - identity and realize the spiritual salvation based on their ethnic culture.
