波伏瓦的《第二性》在中国大陆的译介和接受已经走过了三十多年的历程,在此期间,《第二性》被翻译的次数达十次之多,这是改革开放以来西方文论著作在如此短的时间里翻译和出版次数如此之多的不多见的案例之一。《第二性》译介和接受的三十多年里正是中国性别观念发生急剧变化的年代,作为中国女性解放的精神导师和精神源泉的波伏瓦以及她的《第二性》在不同的时间内被反复介绍、翻译和传播,这在很大程度上说明了波伏瓦与中国性别话语之间的共生关系,进一步说,中国性别话语的发展转化实际上不断地为波伏瓦在中国的译介传播提供了新的语境。
