语境是人们正确运用和理解语言的先决条件,对交际活动中的语言现象有制约功能和解释功能。在语境理论里,不仅包括语言和情景,也包括文化。对语言的理解,离不开文化语境,英语习语作为英语语言的精华,其内涵的准确解读也不能脱离文化语境。将文化与习语这二者同时置放在语境理论这个大背景下,探讨文化语境对英语习语的影响,不仅有助于加深对英语习语的理解,也有助于了解英美文化,对英语学习很有益处。

Context is a prerequisite for employing and understanding a language properly and has both restrictive and explanative functions for linguistic phenomena in communicative activities. As to the theory of context, it contains not only language and situation, but also culture. Context of culture is essential for understanding English idioms which are the essence of English language. A study of English idioms has been carried out in this paper with the help of the theory of context of culture,with the effects of culture on idioms as the focus. This is quite meaningful for understanding English idioms as well as English and American culture learning.
