The punctuation and annotation of Su Shi's poems and essays were most popular during the period from the Southern Song Dynasty to the late Qing Dynasty,and represented the development of literary punctuation and annotation.During the period from the Southern Song Dynasty to the early Ming Dynasty,which was a period of initiation and slow development,much of the focus had been on artistic style,which provided guidance for the imperial examination,but lacked system and theory.The practice of punctuation and annotation boomed in the middle and late Ming Dynasty,when the summary and overall grasp of the art characteristics and achievements of Su's essays were made,and Su's position in literature was further entrenched.During the Qing Dynasty,the height of the punctuation and annotation of Su's poems and essays,there emerged a large number of punctuated and annotated editions with diverse forms and characteristics,including many unpublished written manuscripts having academic value,which are bebeficial to the evaluation and research of Su's writings and even personal life.
