Happiness is a significant topic in Chinese philosophy and ethics. Zhuang zi was the first thinker who had a systematic and profound theory on this topic in Chinese history. This paper discusses the ethical connotations of ＂Zhuang zi＂ ＇s discussions on happiness based on text analysis, interpretation to its theoretical levels, and shows that ＂Zhuang zi＂ talks about its social ethics theory with social happiness, discusses its living ethics with natural happiness and provs its highest ethics about Tao with heavenly happiness. It has finally made its ethics on happiness vivid with complete thinking and contemporary illuminations.
