历经千年演绎的木雕艺术已经成为中国传统文化中的璀璨珠宝。从民间建筑、家具、佛像雕刻演进而来的福建木雕艺术历史悠久。唐宋以后,木雕艺术逐渐兴盛,发展至今主要产地有福州、莆田、泉州、湖北等,精品佳作、异彩纷呈,形成颇具地域特色的风格和流派。闽南一带的金木雕流行以透雕与浮雕相结合,并施以金彩,金碧辉煌、玲珑剔透。而泉州木雕造型简练概括．注重神韵．风格淳朴，具有劲健浑厚的艺术特色。

Since the Tang and Song Dynasties,wood carving art has begun to flourish and develop to this day.Its main producing areas include Fuzhou,Putian,Quanzhou and Hubei.With outstanding masterpieces and brilliant charms,it shapes up styles and genres with geographical features.Although Quanzhou Wood Carving now has formed its own regional style,it is overshadowed by Putian Wood Carving and Fuzhou Wood Carving in the whole wood industry of Fujian.This is mainly due to inadequate publicity and relative inferior technical level which needs to be improved.
