On the Formation of Conjunctions of Purpose in Chinese from the Medieval Translation of Buddhist

通过中古译经为基本材料,讨论汉语目的连词的来源和形成途径,可以看出,汉语目的连词来自引进行为工具凭借的介词,其形成机制是介词宾语省略(隐含)导致目的连词形成。

Based on the medieval translation of Buddhist,the source and formation of conjunction of purpose in Chinese are discussed.This paper reveals that conjunction of purpose in Chinese came from prepositions introducing action vehicles and the ellipsis of prepositional objects caused the formation of conjunction of purpose.
