Henry James,a prominent Euro-American novelist and literary theoretician,distinguishes himself for his novels with ＂international theme＂.Most researches are confined to its cultural domain,and also just the static interpretations of the theme.This thesis explores the dynamic evolution of James’ ＂international theme＂ from his early emphasis on cultural conflict to his later exploration of perfect human nature by tracing the differences in Daisy Miller and The Golden Bowl,the representatives of his early and later works in terms of culture and humanity.It finally indicates that James assiduously strives to seek the ideal human civilization with its integration of cultural fusion and perfect humanity in his lifelong exploration of culture and humanity,though different,yet equally satisfactory.
