摘要
众所周知,美国是世界文化的大熔炉。美国的语言问题也是很多语言专家和社会学者长期关注的焦点。为了解决移民及少数族裔的语言问题,使他们尽快地融入美国的主流社会,政府采取了一系列的措施,其中之一是双语教育。但双语教育对于少数族裔来说到底是有益还是有害?本文通过对双语教育历史以及发展的梳理,结合语言与文化的关系,分析双语教育的本质。
As is known to all, the United States is a melting pot of the world cultures. Language problems of the United States have long been the focal points that language experts are interested in. In order to solve the language problems of the minorities and bring them into the mainstream culture of the United States, the government has taken measures, among which is the well known bilin- gual education. But is bilingual education helpful or harmful to the minorities? Combined with the relationship between language and culture, the paper tries to bring out the nature of bilingual education through examining its history and development.
