From Multiculturalism to Unity with Diversity

国外流行的多元文化主义是一种好的批判武器,却难以成为引领社会的旗帜。我们应在对其吸收借鉴的基础上提倡一种更为合理的主张,这一主张似应称为"多元一体主义"。多元一体主义是对多元文化主义的借鉴和超越,是一种能够体现中国学界在民族和文化问题上的基本共识,能够为实现中华民族伟大复兴增添正能量的"主义",据此,也就是一个我们都有责任共同打造和提倡的"主义"。王希恩,研究员,中国社会科学院民族学与人类学研究所,北京。

Muhiculturalism, which prevail abroad today, is a good weapon for criticism but hard to be the banner leading the whole society. It should be taken as a good reference and developed into a more reasonable theory, which may be called the Unity with Diversity. After absorbing the essence of Multiculturalism, the Unity with Diversity surpasses it, since it not only shows the basic consensus in cultural and ethnic issues in the Chinese academic circle, but also provides positive energy on the way to achieve the revival of China. Therefore, it is a ＂doctrine＂ which all of us should promote and advocate.
