As a research lasted 18 years, the Project of Research of Public Library and lntemet launched by US National Commission on Libraries and Information Science （NCIJS） is the first worldwide study about the national level co-evolution of the public libraries and internet, which has very far- reaching impact of academic and practical significance. This paper introduces the background of the project, discusses historical phases of project devel- opment, and explores enlightenment of the project for library science research.
