Though the backgrounds are different, Dubliners and Winesburg, Ohio both reflect the same humanistic concern of James Joyce and Sherwood Anderson. In loneliness, the boy in Araby got epiphany first but caught up in loneliness again like the doctor in Paper Pills. It seems that modern man can never get away with loneliness. As responsible modern writers, Joyce and Anderson portray their expectations and thoughts of life, expressing sincerely their humanistic concerns about the status of human existence.
