The Discourses on Salt and Iron reflects the contention between two factions about the different economic ethic thoughts on the issues of justice and benefit, nation and public, penalty and morality, agriculture and commerce in Han dynasty. This paper interprets the economic ethic thoughts reflected in The Discourses on Salt and Iron, evaluates the pros and cons on economic ethic thoughts of the two factions-the intellectuals and the officials, and analyzes the far-reaching impacts of the economic ideology in The Discourses on Salt and Iron on the Han Dynasty and later generations.
