Genre features of package inserts

基于系统功能语言学框架下的语类理论,探讨了英文药品说明书的语类与语域。通过分析具体语篇的语类特征,得出结论:英文药品说明书是承载一定社会文化使命、有步骤、有目的的语篇。在这一类语篇中,语域三变量共同起作用,决定了英文药品说明书特有的语类特征。研究表明:把握语篇语类特征是理解英文药品说明书的良好途径,有助于该类语篇的阅读、撰写和翻译。

Based on the genre theory in the framework of systemic-functional linguistics,the genre and register of package inserts were studied.The case analysis of a specific package insert reveals that as a text of stage and goal orientation,a package insert carries certain social-cultural functions.In this type of text,the three variables of register function together to determine the special genre features.Results demonstrate that a good command of genre features of the text of this type contributes to its understanding,reading,writing and translating.
